On March 2, 2020, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new Center for Research. But students and faculty eager to use the center would have to wait because the campus closed for the remainder of the spring semester due to COVID-19.

To assist you in your decision about whether to pursue a PhD, we encourage you (if you have not already done so) to review the information compiled by theAmerican Speech-Language-Hearing Associationon the nature of doctoral education.

Application Requirements & Deadlines

The application deadline is January 15. Applicants must have an MS related to speech-language pathology and should submit the following application requirements:

  • Online graduate application and $50 application fee
  • Three letters of recommendation that, among other things, address your academic or research abilities
  • One essay (1000 words maximum) that addresses the following points:
    • Substantive areas of research interest
    • How your educational background and professional experiences prepare you for your intended specialization
    • Career plans, including how obtaining a PhD supports those goals
  • If available, a document that demonstrates your academic or scholarly writing
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Final transcript stating bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • Final transcript stating master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • An up-to-date CV
