Dear Adelphi Community,

I am pleased to announce that on August 1, Lance Houston, JD, will join us as Adelphi’s Title IX coordinator and director of equity and compliance.

An exceptionally seasoned human resources professional, Mr. Houston is well versed in compliance and Title IX, the federal civil rights law that protects individuals in educational settings from discrimination based on sex. He previously had been Delaware State University’s Title IX lead as their assistant vice president for legal affairs and human resources and, prior to that, as director of human resources and affirmative action at Roxbury Community College in Massachusetts. Mr. Houston also founded and served as chief consultant for University EEO, Inc., a labor relations consulting firm specializing in higher education equal opportunity and Title IX compliance.

Mr. Houston earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University. He also received a Master of Laws in labor and employment law from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in Georgia. In 2020, Mr. Houston’s research was cited in the Title IX Final Rule Regulations of the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights.

In his new role as Adelphi’s Title IX coordinator and director of equity and compliance, Mr. Houston will report to Allison Vernace ’13, chief of community concerns and resolution. This coming Fall 2022 semester, he looks forward to meeting the Adelphi community and working to support and promote an environment free of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation of any type.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Houston to Adelphi University.

Sincerely,

Gene Palma
Vice President of University Wellness, Safety and Administration
